Case Studies
We are focusing on Mexico and Ethiopia (a nation in Africa). These areas are mostly desert because there is little water. Poor communities are especially affected by lack of water. Poor people are affected most because they often have to walk far distances to access drinking water and they cannot get it anywhere else. Also, poor people that drink dirty water are at risk for death from of dehydration.
Annually, 2.2 million people around the globe die of dehydration from dirty water.
In Ethiopia about 44 percent of the population lives in poverty, and in Mexico, 45.5 percent of the population lives in poverty. Communities in these nations often struggle to find consistent, clean sources of water.
